Packing for Palm Springs

It started last summer on my first trip to Palm Springs.  I wore a green palm printed dress (shown below), and my friend Jaime, who I had only met once then said to me: "How do you not live in Palm Springs when you own such a dress?"  She had a point.

It turns out, I have a lot of Palm-Springs-Perfect wardrobe hidden in the corners of my mostly black + grey + boots wardrobe in Brooklyn.  Despite being a born-and-raised-New Yorker, my family is from Haiti, so I have a lot of Caribbean influences.  Which, in this instance explains my love for bright colors.

Earlier today, I did a "street style" photo shoot for Desert Magazine.  It's for the April issue, so naturally the theme was "Coachella Festival Style."  It has been so many years since the one time I went to the hipster music festival, so at first finding a good outfit seemed like a scavenger death mission of my closet.  But a worthwhile one no less because I am so honored when someone asks to take my picture that I (almost) always say yes.  And because I'm pretty sure I'm going to Coachella this year.  And if the desert folk want a stylish black girl with a big afro, then that's exactly what they're going to get!

Bright colors? Check.  Crazy prints?  Check.  Crop tops?  Just a few...

Basically, when I pack for Palm Springs, I pull out all of my fun statement pieces and leave everything else at home in Brooklyn.
